London G20 Summit
Outcomes of the summit
Leaders of twenty largest economies in the world as well as representatives of world financial institutions met in London on 2 April to discuss how they could work together to tackle the current economic and financial crisis. Under the leadership of UK PM Gordon Brown, the G20 agreed a series of measures that constitute a remarkable example of international cooperation.
The measures create a global plan for recovery and reform of the financial market. Among the key principles to be implemented are financial regulation, economic growth and support for global trade and help in the world’s poorest countries.
The world leaders recorded their decisions in a communiqué complemented by other explanatory documents.

The Road to the summit
The UK’s presidency of the G20 in 2009 has been dominated by how to handle the global economic downturn. The London Summit, which took place on 2 April, was an important step in the international debate about how we should work cooperatively to create jobs, stimulate economic growth and restore stability.
As part of preparation for the Summit the UK, and its Embassies and missions all around the world, worked with Governments, experts and academics to explore the issues and arguments about what the London Summit should do. The UK 's vision and ideas were set out in this key document:
