Czech MOD Self Access Centre

The British Council, under its English for Europe programme, established five English Language Self Access Centres (SACs) in government ministries. MODUK and the FCO jointly ran a separate English language scheme – the Peacekeeping English Project (PEP) – through which we trained the English language teachers and monitored teaching standards until 2006.

The Czech MOD had not included in the original English for Europe project, but as a result of new funding from MODUK and the British Council Prague, a SAC was established within their General Staff building. The SAC opened officially by His Royal Highness Prince Andrew the Duke of York during his visit to the Czech Republic in September 2003. This facility enabled civilian employees of the MOD as well as members of the Armed Forces the opportunity to practise and hone their language skills in their own time.
