Climate change and energy

“The world has woken up to the reality of climate change. But the fact is that we have not yet joined together to act against it. Copenhagen must be the moment to do so- a declaration of our mutual commitment as a single global society; the time, as last, when our understanding of the unavoidable interdependence of economic prosperity, social justice and environmental stewardship is transformed into common global action. The UK will be at the forefront of this effort.”

Prime Minister Gordon Brown speech on 'Roadmap to Copenhagen' in June 2009

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges facing the world today.  The scientific and economic evidence is clear: climate change is happening and it is influenced to a large degree by human activities. It is not just an environmental problem but something that threatens international peace and security, prosperity and development. The UK Government is committed to tackling the causes of climate change, mitigating its risks and preparing for and dealing with its consequences.Working with other countries and international institutions such as the EU and UN to rapidly shift towards a lower carbon world, is one of UK's current key priorities.
