The UK has a global reputation as an innovative, knowledge-based economy. Around two-thirds of all companies coming to the UK are engaged in some kind of scientific R&D activity.

Companies that undertake R&D in the UK have access to world-class academic and research resources. The UK’s academic institutions are among the best in the world and include the world’s two top universities for science and four of Europe’s top five universities overall.

Find more information on undertaking research & development in the UK on the UKTI website.

The Science & Innovation Section at the British Embassy, Prague

The Science & Innovation Section at the British Embassy in Prague aims to promote Science and Innovation co-operation between the UK and the Czech Republic and to facilitate technology transfer and innovation.

The Section is a part of the Foreign & Commonwealth Office’s global Science & Innovation Network which incorporates full time specialist teams in 39 missions in 24 countries around the world. S&I Network attachés help to capitalise on and enhance the UK science base and help companies access overseas innovation and technology.

The Section focuses on the following priority sectors: biomedical sciences, nanotechnology, technology transfer and innovation, European research programmes, advanced materials and industries.

The main partners of the S&I Section are government departments, parliamentary and devolved institutions, public sector bodies, universities, research and trade organisations, and industry. The Embassy also co-operates closely with the British Council on the popularisation of Science and Innovation, e.g. a successful series of "Cafes Scientifiques".
